ABCs of School Acronyms


What is EOCT, CRCT, RESA, or EIP?  Use the following as a guide to help understand the many acronyms that are used within Monroe County Schools.


Acronym Title Description
21st CCLC 21st Century Community Learning Centers Supports the creation of community learning centers that provide academic enrichment opportunities during non-school hours
ACCEL Accel Program The Accel program is for students at eligible high schools that wish to take college level coursework for credit towards both high school and college graduation requirements.
AEP Alternative Education Program Serves students outside of the traditional education program
BSC Balanced Scorecard
BSC Banks-Stephens Campus The 7th and 8th grade campus of Monroe County Middle School
CCRPI College and Career Ready Performance Index A comprehensive school improvement, accountability, and communication platform for all educational stakeholders that will promote college and career readiness for all Georgia public school students
CIP Continuous Improvement Plan
CRCT Criterion-Referenced Competency Tests The CRCT is designed to measure how well students acquire the skills and knowledge described in the state mandated content standards in reading, English/language arts, mathematics, science and social studies.
CRCT-M Criterion-Referenced Competency Tests The CRCT-M is a grade-level alternate assessment designed for a small number of students (approximately 2%) who receive special education services and who meet specific eligibility criteria.
CTAE Career, Technical, and Agricultural Education Instruction focusing on career development through the use various pathways.
EIP Early Intervention Program Designed to serve students who are at risk of not reaching or maintaining academic grade level
EOCT End of Course Test Serves as a student's final exam in the associated course
ESOL English for Speakers of Other Languages A standards-based curriculum emphasizing academic and social language development
FERPA Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act A Federal law that protects the privacy of student education records
GAPSS Georgia Assessment of Performance on School Standards A site-based review process that provides a detailed analysis of a school's progress

HES Samuel E. Hubbard Elementary School Campus for grades Pre K thru 5.
HIPPA Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act A privacy rule that protects the privacy of individually identifiable health information
KBS Katherine B. Sutton Elementary School Campus for grades Pre K thru 5.
LEA Local Educational Agency Local school system pursuant to local board of education control and management.
LKES Leader Keys Effectiveness System An evaluation system that supports continuous growth and development of each leader
MCAC Monroe County Achievement Center Campus serving students through AEPs
MCMS Monroe County Middle School For grades 6 thru 8, comprised of BSC and WHC.
MCS Monroe County Schools
MCSEC Monroe County Schools Education Center
MOWR Move On When Ready Move On When Ready is a dual enrollment program for students to attend a postsecondary institution full-time during their junior and/or senior year of high school and receive high school credit and college credit simultaneously while attending college classes on the college campus, full-time.

PBIS Positive Behavior Interventions & Supports An evidence-based, data-driven framework proven to reduce disciplinary incidents, increase a school's sense of safety and support improved academic outcomes.
REP Remedial Education Program The Remedial Education Program is an instructional program designed for students in grades 6-12 who have identified deficiencies in reading, writing, and math.
RESA Regional Educational Service Agency Established for the purpose of sharing services designed to improve the effectiveness of the educational programs of member school systems
SACS Southern Association of Colleges and Schools
SBOE State Board of Education Constitutional authority which defines education policy for public K-12 education agencies in Georgia.
SST Student Support Teams The Student Support Team (SST) is a problem-solving process in every Georgia school. Its purpose is to find ways around roadblocks to success for any student referred to it.

TGS T. G. Scott Elementary School Campus for grades Pre K thru 5.
TOTY Teacher of the Year An annual spotlights the teaching profession and recognizes outstanding public school teachers at the local and state levels.
TKES Teacher Keys Effectiveness System An evaluation system that supports continuous growth and development of each teacher
WHC William Hubbard Campus The 6th grade campus of Monroe County Middle School
